Sleeping out for those who don’t have their somewhere

This year, the entire global staff network of GBG, which now includes PCA Predict, has chosen to support national and local charities raising vital funds and awareness for those who find themselves without a place to call home.

On the 26th April a team of six from PCA Predict and the wider GBG business are taking part in the CEO Sleepout, a national charity set up to help raise funds for local homeless and community support initiatives. The location of people and places, and the data related is fundamental to PCA Predict, so it felt right to get involved in this event taking place right on our doorstep.

On the night of the fundraising event, we, along with leaders from several other Worcestershire-based businesses, will be giving up the comfort of our own homes as a gesture of compassion and support for others less fortunate than ourselves, and to demonstrate a spirit that we hope will inspire others.

The money raised from the Worcester sleepout will go towards St Paul’s Hostel and the Worcester Community Foundation, who help to support vulnerable people with basic needs such as shelter, food and washing facilities, as well as support with mental health, education and getting back to work initiatives.

In the UK alone, there is more than a quarter of a million people without a place to call home, and according to the charity Shelter, there are more than 300,000 people in Britain without adequate housing. Some are in hostels, others tuck in for the night on cold and wet pavements. A sobering thought is that the average life expectancy of a homeless person is cut short by 30 years, at just 43 years young for a woman and 47 for a man.

If every one of PCA Predict’s and GBG’s Twitter followers donated just £1 we would have over £7,000. Imagine how many hot meals, warm beds and support that could give.

We often blame society for homelessness, but what many of us fail to remember is that we are society. As a business, through our charity fundraising, we are committed to helping make sure everyone feels a part of our local and global communities.
