In the true spirit of Christmas

What has now become a Postcode Anywhere yuletide tradition, again this year we donned our festive headgear and Christmas jumpers and went out into the community to sing carols and bring some seasonal cheer to the elderly.

This year we went to visit our new friends at Latimer Court Care Home. We met staff and some of the residents back in September as they happened to win an auction prize we donated to the Mayor’s annual charity ball. The package comprised a day out on our corporate narrow-boat Jokery on the scenic River Severn to include an onboard champagne picnic.

On talking to the dedicated staff members who accompanied some of the residents at the time Latimer Court redeemed their prize, we asked them if they would like us to entertain them with our travelling Christmas Carol concert. Happily they said yes and we obliged. The home is very near to our new Diglis office so we are practically neighbours.

This year the event was particularly important to us as we saw it as a fantastic way to welcome new team members. We discovered a real talent in Mary Hughes, who is a member of the customer care team and has the voice of an angel. She also brought her mother and sister along who are also extremely musically accomplished. What a talented family!

Mary not only graced us with her beautiful voice but she also put the choir through its paces by warming them up before their performance. Eat your heart out Gareth. We invented the workplace choir which is now in its seventh year.

Newcomers to the marketing team Alison Brundle and Sarah Jones also joined us. Not only did they help to swell the ranks of our Postcode Anywhere choir and added a new dimension in terms of harmony, but they also assisted us in distributing the 40 boxes of chocolates.

Singing Santa

Tom Gurney very generously dressed as a very jolly and even portly Santa, complete with beard and lots of padding. He was ably assisted by my PR buddy Natalie Green who offered to be his elfin assistant. All the residents, their friends and families as well as duty staff, extended a very warm welcome to us all. We had loads of fun and no one seemed to object to our singing in fact they all appeared to enjoy the performance.

Latimer Court Care Home offers high-quality care to the people living in a comfortable, secure and happy home environment. Care staff members are committed to organising stimulating activities to enhance residents’ sense of independence and wellbeing and visiting guests are especially welcome.

Every Christmas the team at Postcode Anywhere go out into the community bearing gifts of chocolates coupled with their enthusiastic carol singing. It has now become an annual philanthropic tradition.

Although the Postcode Anywhere choir is not a disciplined choral group, its members look forward to the event. CEO Guy Mucklow said: “It’s true that we’re not an accomplished band of choristers but what we lack in musical ability we make up for with enthusiasm and generosity of spirit.

“It’s important that we extend the hand of friendship to Latimer Court residents as well as their carers who do a fantastic job in caring. Now we are the Diglis side of the City they are practically neighbours. We have so many new members of staff on board, involving them with our CSR activities has been a great way to welcome them to the company and get to know the rest of the team. The carol concert is a great team building event where we always have fun.”

Latimer Court is a brand new purpose-built 80-bed care home specifically designed to provide high-quality residential and nursing care as well as personalised dementia care. It is part of the Barchester Healthcare group.
