Postcode Anywhere’s associate director of sales and support, Emma Stone is currently preparing for a gargantuan challenge, the Great North Run, which takes place on the 15th September.
The Great North Run is the world’s biggest half marathon. The physically challenging run starts in Newcastle on Tyne and concludes in South Shields. With 54,000 participants the event is hugely popular, attracting runners attending from literally all parts of the globe. Emma is running to raise much needed funds for mental health charity Mind.
Emma has a strong affinity with the North as she was born in Halifax and attended Leeds Metropolitan University where she attained a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Consumer Services Management. She said: “This is the third consecutive year I’ve taken part in the Great North Run so I’m hoping that I will complete it, yet again, without injury or illness.
“As always I’m running for a charity close to my heart, to raise much needed funds for Mind. Every year one in four of us will experience a mental health problem and most of us know someone or have been affected ourselves by stress, depression or anxiety.”
Run, Emma, Run!
For Emma the demanding half marathon has come at a time when she is also embracing a new exciting challenge in her career as she has only just recently joined Postcode Anywhere. With a background in both people management and process improvement at npower, she will be helping to prepare the foundations for the company’s international expansion.
She said: “I believe my experience will support the growth plans of the company and help drive the Postcode Anywhere brand to the next level. It’s exciting to be joining a company where I can help shape its future, building on the success of the business to date I will be looking to enhance our existing teams, recruiting talented people from the local area, maintaining the culture of our business whilst driving growth.”
Postcode Anywhere’s managing director Guy Mucklow added: “One of the main challenges for most entrepreneurially led businesses is in moving towards a more structured way of working as the business gets bigger. At Postcode Anywhere while we have thrived working in a relatively informal way over the years, we have now got to the stage where our systems and processes need to be far more rigorous as we scale up for further growth.
“Emma’s knowledge and experience in structuring and managing sales and service teams in larger organisations will be invaluable, as we embark upon an ambitious recruitment drive across all areas of the business including technical development.”
As Emma embarks on her punishing training programme she is building up her stamina and can often be seen running in the vicinity of our Waterside office. As a dedicated half marathon runner, she is Postcode Anywhere’s champion and on the 15th September we will all be with her spiritually if not physically.
Emma concludes: ”Everyone here has been so kind and I am very near to raising my target of £300, which Postcode Anywhere will match fund if I am successful. I think Mind is a great charity to support because it works hard to dispel the stigma attached to mental illness as well as ensuring sufferers get the support and respect they deserve.”
Ironically Emma’s husband Neil is also participating in the Great North Run causing much debate in the Stone household as to who will complete the distance in the fastest time. Of course at Postcode Anywhere our money is on our champion Emma. This may cause a bit of a dilemma for her children, Matt aged 13 and daughter Rebecca aged 7, who we suspect will be standing at the finish line feeling very proud of their altruistic and highly athletic parents.
