IRCE4

3 themes we’re expecting to see at IRCE

We are just days away from the largest ecommerce show of the year, The International Retail Conference and Exhibition, or IRCE as it’s better known. With more than 10,000 technology vendors, retailers and media expected to make the trip to the Windy City, these are the key topics and trends we’re expecting to see this year…

Mobile

Following the recent announcement of Google’s new buy buttons and of course the infamous ‘mobilegeddon’, mobile is undoubtedly going to be huge topic at IRCE this year. Consumer adoption of smartphones and tablets continues to rise, and brands have been tasked with developing optimized shopping experiences for the smaller screens. I read recently that as many as 90% of small business owners still don’t have a mobile-friendly website, despite the fact that the majority of adults (60%) now use their mobiles or tablets over desktops! Mobile is no longer a ‘nice to have’; it’s essential.

Big data

Being able to predict trends and customer behaviour in real time is going to be the wholly grail to big data success. Therefore, retailers that are able to use tools to analyze historical activity and apply predictive modelling will have a huge market advantage. Similarly, in a world where brands have seemingly endless amount of information on their customers, irrelevant messaging will no longer be tolerated. Retailers need to learn how to leverage the data they have to create personalized shopping experience across all channels. The sad thing is that most retailers are already sitting on a pile of useful data but are not yet putting it to use. I’m personally really looking forward to attending Sear’s Holdings big data journey on day 2 to hear how they are dealing with the influx of data.

Frictionless ecommerce

Your customers should be able to come in, find what they want, buy it and be done in just a couple of minutes and a couple of clicks. Frictionless ecommerce is all about exceeding the expectations of your shoppers. At Postcode Anywhere, we have a little tool we think can go a long way in helping retailers to achieve this state of nirvana. Capture+ is our predictive type-ahead global address verification technology, which is helping retailers all over the world create faster, frictionless checkouts. With just a few snippets of code, Capture+ can be integrated into your site to improve customer experience, reduce cart abandonment and increase delivery accuracy. Do not create unnecessary friction by forcing your customers to jump through hoops to make a purchase!
